Peroneal Tendinopathy
What Are The Peroneal Tendons?
The peroneal tendons originate on the outside of the leg and progress down into the foot. They allow you to move your foot towards the outside of the body.
There are many conditions that can affect the peroneal tendons inflammation of the tendon sheath (tenosynovitis), rupture, subluxation or dislocation of the tendons from behind fibula (outside leg bone). This is often experienced as a clicking sensation and movement of the tendons over the bone.
Management of these conditions can be through conservative measures to include:
• Rest
• Immobilisation
• Ice
• Physiotherapy
• Bracing
• Insoles
• Activity modification
If conservative measures fail surgical management may be required and the type of surgery is dependent on the problem.
