Sever's disease / Apophysitis

Sever’s disease is a condition that affects children and juveniles where the growth plates within the heel bone is still active. Presentation includes diffuse pain arising from the back of the heel bone which is increased with activity and reduced by rest and analgesia. The condition is self-limiting, as it resolves once the growth plates close, but in the interim can be debilitating. The condition is simply managed by activity modification, rest, ice, analgesia and calf stretching. If the foot rolls in (pronates) the use of an orthotic may be appropriate. No other management is required.
